Star Pirates is an online role-playing game that is both free-to-play and doesn’t require any downloads – play right in your browser. The folks over at Star Pirates have contacted GameZig with a giveaway to our readers.
New players who sign-up through GameZig have a chance to win 1,000 StarPirate Points to get a jumpstart on setting up your ship and get on the right track to build your pirate fleet. Star Pirates is a persistant online game that offers players the chance to garner themselves fortune and fame by becoming one of the most feared and respected pirates in the Galaxy.
The setting is in the far future where Earth is no more. The only remains of the human race are what’s left of Asteroid miners in the outer reaches of the solar system trying to scrape a living together over the now limited resources left in the verse.
In the game you can gain wealth by plundering other players, mining the asteroids for resources, hunting for treasure and more. To signup and enter for your chance to win 1,000 StarPirate Points – click here. The drawing for the 1,000 points will be held in late January – which isn’t that far away, so enter now!

I’d say this game is an entire waste of time. Unless you are willing to drop $500 USD into the game, the people that have been playing for the last 4 months will just wipe the floor with you. There are too many people playing this game that have dropped over $2,000 (you essentially can buy stats and upgrades) that have become bullies that can make your play experience very dull. When you are attacked, you have to wait for 15 minutes before you can do anything else.
This posters link takes you to a “referral” page where he gets a chance to win something if you join. I’d doubt you’d get your 1000 points if he didn’t win the main prize pack. But kudos for trying.
The community is too smalll for comfort and its less like pvp and more like a chatbox with some clicks. If you are into roleplaying a pirate into a chatbox, then this is for you.
If you are looking for a decent way to spend your time and not your money, then you’ll probably want to pick a different game.

Just for the record, GameZig doesn’t win anything. The Star Pirates team gave us the referral link to give our readers a chance to win game points, nothing comes to us.

“Partial Taint” probably got kicked out for breaking rules or kept bugging other players who retaliated. I guess that because what he says is just not true.
I very rarely get ‘hit online’ and if I do I just use up some Duct Tape (you find some every time you search each hour).
As for ‘you have to wait 15 minutes before you can do anything else’ that’s not true either. A lot of players CHOOSE to ‘splat’ themselves (attack someone bigger, stronger) so they can go into the shipyard on purpose! That’s to buy stocks, upgrade/customize their ship, buy weapons/stuff from the markets and so on. There’s a lot of raiders out there but they can’t raid you in the shipyard.
The admins there are awesome and come down hard on anyone who bothers other players; probably ‘Partial Taint’ was one.
SP is great. I joined a Fleet who helped me by loaning me some shields and engines. We’re into another Fleet war soon, the last was so fast. I think that’s the best part, being in the Fleet and the community.

I used to play this game but a real life friend of mine passed away recently that I met through the game and I realized that it wasn’t the game I was attracted to at all.
The gameplay is actually quite boring. I met a few good people almost 11 months ago when the game was fresh and fun. Now that there are people that have paid their $100 a month for almost a year, they are way farther ahead of people that have just started. The rules also change as time goes on to make things “slower” for new players.
When I joined there was no limit on stock purchases (essentially could make millions in a day with the right choices). We started off at such a big lead that there is no way someone could catch us now. This leaves us free to be bullies or saints and hit who we will.
Its been a good run. My ship has slowly slid off the Hall of Fame and I haven’t been back to check in the last three weeks.
If you are looking to chat to people, play the game. If you are looking for a fun game, look for something else.

The games is alright to me whether if i spent money or not. No that i addicted to it but one thing really bother me.. which is admin256. Personally I feed that he banned people without any solid ground of breaking the rule. It usually come from complain from people that often talk in the chat box. There is no warning first then banned. One of the good example is one complain the other of cheating it class X stuff. but he transfer to him base on trust and he choose not to return it. After the banned then he come out a message that those who trust ppl and borrow at it own risk.. I though this game is star pirates.. what is all this banned here and there.. it suppose to be cunning will gain and stupid will lost.this make the game look more like attending a school. this admin256 really took almost everything out of the game intend. the other thing is. what wrong with multi account… dont the company earn more from that….if they buy more point..
by the way i am still in the game and havent got banned..

I’m one of the administrators of Starpirates. It’s great that gamezig would help out new players like that. I hope the contest went well!
@unhappy: “what wrong with multi account” : it’s unfair to players who don’t cheat. Simple as that. And yes we could make more money from multiaccounters if we structured it a certain way but we don’t. Ethics are really important to us. We have few rules, but enforce them clearly — I make no apologies for that.
@Lysander: Yeah, it was *very* sad to the community when GDL passed away in real life. I’m a “tough hearted admin” and I cried when I heard it, I admit.
@Partial Taint: “If you are into roleplaying a pirate into a chatbox, then this is for you.” I think we somewhat agree on that…somewhat. I agree that the COMMUNITY of starpirates is more important to everyone than the game play itself. We’ve kept the game very simple for a few reasons, one is not to distract from the point of it — a quick break in the middle of the day playingwise, and more in depth when you have time.
I would strongly argue though about the funds. If you want to compete against players that are in the Hall of Fame, then yes, their funds have paid for the game for all the free players. There are however many players that are very tough who have never contributed a cent. That’s fine, we don’t complain about it nor treat them any less special. They get responses to game suggestions, can vote in pools, can talk in the forums, can lead fleets just like anyone else.
The game is what you make it in some ways. If it’s not for you, that’s cool. It’s really not for everyone. But if you are looking for a community of fun gamers, and role players, — and are going nuts in the office looking for break in the day — then I’d try it.
Cheers!
