Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce (aka Shin Sangoku Musou Multi Raid in Japan)
by Rocky Jalil
The next installment to the Dynasty Warriors series will be hacking and slashing it way onto the PSP in the coming months.
I am a Dynasty Warriors fan and I bought a PSP mainly to get my DW fix, so I was giddy as hell when I heard the news about Strikeforce. For those of you virgins to the series, I’ll give you a basic summary. Dynasty Warriors is a hack and slash, published by Koei, that takes place in ancient China where three kingdoms, Wu, Wei, and Shu wage war against each other. You are placed in a large battlefield, in which you face thousands of enemy soldiers to hack your way through, using primary (weaker) and secondary (stronger) attacks. As you progress through the game, your character’s stats will increase and you will gain new items as well as weapons that will further enhance your character’s stats.
Strikeforce is the same old Dynasty Warriors goodness with additions such as Awakening, which alters your character’s appearance and increases their stats. The game will also include a Multiplayer mode up to 4 players where you can play co-op with friends. This aspect alone is very appealing since it adds more than just the tradition Vs. mode seen in previous titles.
Little information is known about Strikeforce’s gameplay mechanics. There has been mentioning of RPG aspects, such as quests that add more to the experience. After viewing a number screenshots, Strikeforce appears to be favor Koei’s “Dynasty Warriors Online aka DW:BB (RPG based)” than DW 6 which was previously assumed. It is still far too early to say for sure at this point, but I’ll keep you updated as more unfolds. In the meantime, check out the screenshots.
Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce is scheduled to be released in Japan sometime in February 2009 and is scheduled for a Spring 2009 release in the US and Europe. I will be looking forward to teaming with Guan Yu, in hopes to achieve another Shu victory..
