It should come as no surprise that Blizzard chose this day, the day before Warhammer Online goes, erm…online to make their announcement for the release date of Wrath of the Lich King. Since WOTLK can’t share the same or close release date, might as well make an announcement to try to keep some of the gamer’s eyes on WoW and what’s going on in Azeroth.
WOTLK is scheduled to be released November 13th of this year – which could prove to be either good or bad news for Blizzard depending on how the launch of WAR fairs. If the launch of WAR goes smooth, the amount of WAR fans going back to WoW will most likely be low and hurt the launch number of WOTLK. On the flip side, if the WAR release flops – WoW will most likely enjoy a return en mass of strays, much like what happened with the dreary AoC launch a few months ago.
Along with the ship date for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, we also found out some of the details of the collector’s edition of the expansion. I’ll sum them up:
- The Art of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, a 208-page book featuring never-before-seen images from the game.
- An exclusive in-game pet: Frosty, the baby frost wyrm.
- A behind-the-scenes DVD containing over an hour of developer interviews, the Wrath of the Lich King intro cinematic with director’s commentary, and more.
- The official soundtrack CD, containing 21 epic tracks from the game, along with exclusive bonus tracks.
- A mouse pad featuring a map of the newly opened continent of Northrend.
- Two World of Warcraft Trading Card Game March of the Legion starter decks, along with two exclusive cards available only in the Collector’s Edition.

I’m in WAR right now and I can tell you, things are going very smooth. CE Preorders have been playing since Noon EST on Sunday, and SE Preorders just went live today.
So far, so good.
I’ll never go back to WoW.
My girlfriend, though, she’s picking up WotLK
