Warhammer Online: The Bastion Stair

The first of dungeon to be announced by the Warhammer Online team is The Bastion Stair.  Both the Order and Destruction are drawn to this source of Chaos power.  The Order will be venturing into the twisted and torn landscape of the Chaos wastes to attempt to recover Myrmidia’s Spear – the only remaining artifact from the Empire’s Goddess of War – and to cleanse this unholy portal to prevent the Chaos servants from working their evil.

The dungeons in WAR will come in three flavors:  Realm Instanced, Group Instanced and Warband Instanced.  No one knows for sure yet what the difference is between the different instance types and Mythic certainly is keeping their lips sealed but I wonder…

If I had to guess – and right now we all do.  I would guess that Realm Instanced dungeons work much the way the end game city fight works.  With both Order and Destruction fighting the horrors of the instance – and eachother.  We already know the Realm instances having to do with city seiges are player capped and I would think it safe to assume that Realm Instanced dungeons would follow the same basic rules.

Group Instanced most likely is just like any other MMORPG out there, get some players together and form a group to tackle the instance.  How hard could that be?  The group based instances here definitely have room to manuever away from the norm we all come to know in games such as WoW, where it seems to take longer orchestrating each fight than the fight takes itself.  Syp over at Waaagh! has already touched on group’s in dungeons a bit in his post here, have a look.

That leaves us Warband based.  This is just a complete guess and I think it could go one of three ways.  All of which could be totally wrong.  First, it could work similar to the public quest system.  An instanced dungeon where players can join and participate without necessarily have to worry to much about grouping up – just a level and player capped open instance if you will.  Second, it could be WAR’s version of a raid allowing for larger parties of players than the standard group to team up to tackle the larger, more difficult dungeons.  And last, and this one is really stretching it to the max of imagination, it could be an instance where both Order and Destruction are neutral toward eachother working toward a common goal.  I know that one is a bit out there, considering the whole premise of the game is based around Realm vs Realm combat this one is probably pretty unlikely.  But I thought I’d throw it out there anyway.

What do you think these could be?
