One of my favorite projects to keep an eye on is the Star Wars Galaxies emulator (SWGEmu). For those of you SWG veterans not familiar with SWGEmu, it is a project aimed at bringing back SWG as it existed PRE-CU. In other words, before Sony dropped the ball on their fan base. The project has been in the works for years now and is rapidly nearing completion. Every month the developers progress in leaps and bounds towards getting the engine optimized enough to have a fully functional SWG server in the state we vets all remembered and loved.
Now the devs are calling out for fans of SWG new and old to help with a major stress test of the game engine by logging in to the Test Center and playing the game. The stress test is going to be the largest to date and hopefully the beginning of a series of large tests aimed at collecting as much data as possible to move this project to a live status.
The test is taking place on December 6th, 2008 at 6:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
Participating is easy! Follow the steps below to login and play the Test Center version of Pre-CU SWG! Remember, a legal copy of Star Wars Galaxies is required. You just need the discs, there is no subscription fees involved in this project now or ever. Illegally downloaded versions or trial versions of the game client are prohibited.
Before you begin, head on over to SWGEmu.com and register for a forum account. This will be the username/password you use to log into the Test Center.
Installation
1. Install your discs. You can use any version of the game. Do not update at this time.
2. Download Launchpad Enhanced setup
3. Intall Launchpad Enhanced by clicking on the .exe file. (remember to be set as the admin if your on Vista)
4. Update through Launchpad Enhanced. Depending on your download speed this can take several hours. Recommendation for the first download is to do it overnight. Do NOT interrupt the download or you will corrupt files.
5. Log on using SWGEmu.com Forum Name and Password.
6. Play!
Hope to see everyone there! This is a great, free project that has massive potential. Do your part to help bring back the SWG of old!

That’s exactly right – you can play for no monthly fee. The project isn’t finished yet but it’s getting close. You just need your original game discs to play and a new client download.

dude i hate to be like a debby downer here but what if its not like you remember? what if it does suck and is way unbalanced, sure the economy will be back and bangin but what about pvp. I vividly remember pre-cu chillin with my TKM and my brother who was a master rifleman, us 2 could literally kill groups of 15 easy, rifleman was a serious pwner and had the ability to DB guys at 100m or something. and if any1 came close i would TKM spam them to death lol.
dude lol seeing medics running into battle to freakin drag dying guys off the field only to have the master riflemen DB right in his arms lol.
also when that game was heavely populated it was the best, so many towns with random people just everywhere, you could literally run around for hours pvping from one town to the next.
lets hope that new star wars game is good:)

I just rebuilt my rig a couple nights ago – I’m going to have to reinstall the client and get in and check out the latest build. Sounds fun.

Game is in one of the final stages. They’re redoing all the object code in the game and a decent guess would be that we’ll see the first server release this year.
You can play right now. It’s fun. Most classes are fully implemented.

I’m definitely going to be setting up a test account, just trying to find time around the kids can be tough. When Sony released the Galactic Civil War Update I tried to go back in for their free play time offer, but unfortunately my account has been disabled for longer than 2 years. Guess they didn’t want me back.
