It’s Official: EA Announces KOTOR MMO

In a Portfolio.com interview this week at E3, John Riccitiello (the CEO of Electronic Arts) confirmed that the secret project in the works is indead Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Online in partnership with LucasArts.

During the interview, N. Evan Van Zelfden asked point blank if the top secret project at BioWare’s Austin based studio is indeed a KOTOR MMO.  John replied a simple, “Yes”.  That cat’s out of the bag!

John sees MMO’s, particularly powerful titles such as Star Wars and World of Warcraft being PC based games will help take back the market for the PC.  Currently he says, two thirds of the gamers in the market are on consoles.  He says by 2011, they predict that number to be 50 percent.  And I share the belief that if anything can do it, it’s the MMO genre.  Due to the constant content additions and patches, doing MMO’s successfully on consoles just isn’t feasible right now.

As soon as I have any tidbits of news on this breaking announcement, you can be sure I’ll be posting it up here.  Stay tuned!
