On January 15th, 2009 – Bounty Bay Online will release it’s next free expansion titles Colonies. With this expansion, guilds will be able to establish their own colonies, complete with towns and harbours inside the game world. The add-on will be a roughly 500mb download that will begin when you log into your game client and will make available the option to build your own home territory retreat, base or lucrative trading post.
When guilds reach guild level 5, they will be able to build a colony in one of Bounty Bay’s 33 coastal regions – assuming they don’t already have one. To build a colony, guild leaders will need to successfully complete a series of colony quests, at the end of which they’ll receive a colony foundation stone. The guild will need to find an available piece of land to establish themselves on and choose one of three unique appearances for their colony: Pirate Nest, Rural Village or Industrial Town. The look of the town however has absolutely no effect on what the colony can do, it’s completely cosmetic.
Once created, the real work begins – the guild has 48 hours from the time the colony is set to get it to a colony Level 1 or the colony, foundation stone and all resources involved in building the colony are lost. Once the colony is established, it has to be well supplied with resources to not going bankrupt and get dismantled. There are significant advantages to having a colony, for one you get it as a new anchor point and home port. The guild will gain a sphere of influence around the harbor and be able to store large amount of resources for the guild. All guild members will get the benefit of enhanced attributes like better endurance for their ships, increased regeneration rates, better ship maneuverability and stronger defense for their land characters. Warriors can use harbors as an outpost to retreat to regenerate their forces as well as secure important stock for their vessels. Other advantages depend on what kind of colony you decide to make it into:
Industrial Harbor: Specializes in the research of weapons, armor and the trade of pets.
Business Harbor: Specializes in the trade of materials between the different colonies.
Collector’s Harbor: Specializes in the importing of materials and resources that can only normally be bought from NPC’s.
Military Harbor: Specializes in the research of new ships, new ship features, canons and ammunition.
