Age of Conan: Slow Download Fix

The download has been going painfully slow since it began, sometimes getting up around 40kpbs at it’s peek but hovering in the 30’s. I was wondering why it was so slow, and my internet connection was unbearable while it was running. I have more bandwidth than that!!

Today I started messing with the settings and it is now cruising at about 140kpbs down. I paused the download first. Then minimized, set my peer limit down to 5 from the default of 50. Then set my upload limit to 25kbps from unlimited and left my download at unlimited and resumed the download. It started out fast like it had been but now it seems to be staying there pretty stable. It’s only been a few minutes with dips down into the 80’s been that’s better than 40’s with dips into the teens!

Update: I downloaded and installed a trial version of Net Limiter 2 Pro last night after I posted this article. It seemed to help to keep the downloads a bit more stable by setting a rule within Net Limiter to limit the bandwidth of all incoming ports to 512b other than port 80.

Hey mate.

What helped me was even more simple than what you described. I paused the download for about 30 seconds and then resumed. BOOM. 300k a second.

Give it a try. It’s been working for others with crawling download speeds as well.

Cheers!

I tried that and it did work at first, but it ended up trickling back down after about 20 minutes the first time. That’s when I started messing with the settings.

One of two ways. If you have the download screen maximized on the desktop, you will see a pause button and a play button. That’s the way to do it using the automated tool. Otherwise, if you have the download manager minimized, you will see it in your system tray (down by your clock) and you can right click on it to pause or resume.
