BlackwingsWell, I spent most of Saturday trying to figure out my graphics problem just so I could get into the game. After I finally got in late Saturday night, I was able to play a bit but even after the shader fix mention in my previous post, the graphics were still funky. Shadows under objects were twitching in and out and everything had a general graphic lag to it. I corrected this by dropping the settings in-game for graphics to minimum and making the in-game resolution the same as my desktop resolution. After that the graphics were beautiful, even on minimum the game was full of eye candy.
One thing that annoyed me fairly early on is the fact that you can’t quickly change characters, at least not that I could find a way to. My wife and I both play on the same account and to switch to let her play I had to completely exit the game, there was no option to go to the character select screen, which was kind of annoying because you have to wait for the game client to rescan all your files and check for updates before you go back in. A fix for that from FunCom would be a nice bonus, I doubt I’m the only one who will run into that issue. If I’m wrong and there is a way to do it, I’d be greatful if you’d post up a comment and let me know!!
My first character is a now level 9 ranger, I only got him to level 9 because I hadn’t spent as much of the weekend checking this out as I would have liked and spent a ton of time reading through the tutorials, this game is different enough from other MMO’s that you really should read through and find out how to do things, I didn’t play in the beta so beta tester input on tips and tricks would be sweet. Shoot me an email or post a comment with anything you found that may help us newbies out. One thing that bugged me for awhile I finally found the shortcut key to was switching weapons. As a ranger I was using a bow a lot, but when mobs got up close I found it a pain to switch to my sword until I found the hotkey and set it up on my Nostromo. Now life is good.
I’ll post up more tips as I find them and maybe put up a screenshot of my first tune a little later today. Overall this game is getting a thumbs up from me as fun and a very attractive and different kind of MMO.
