I, like a fool, have been trying the ‘/claim’ command in game to try to get my pre-order items. I ordered the Collector’s Edition from BestBuy and have yet to receive the actual box of the game. I finally realized today that I won’t be able to use my in-game pre-order items with the claim command until that box arrives and I plug in the code in the box to my account at register.ageofconan.com.
This means that my XP ring and my drinking cape (yay!) won’t be here until the box gets here. The downside to this is BestBuy doesn’t show that it’s been shipped. I imagine they will probably wait until tomorrow to actually ship the box which means it won’t be arriving for another four or five days. That kind of sucks, no fault to FunCom on this one. I place blame on BestBuy, they should ship it so that is arrives on May 20th, not ship it on May 20th!
FunCom however isn’t completely blame free in my eyes. Though they can’t control when the game ships from BestBuy, they clearly show in my account registered at the Age of Conan website that I have the pre-order and the War Rhino already registered to my account, which I obviously can’t use until level 40 anyway. They don’t show anything about the XP ring or the Drinking Cape in my account though I feel they should. And I feel that if it shows in my account on the official Age of Conan website, then it should be claimable in game without any extra work on my part, ie putting in a registration code.
So if you, like me are typing ‘claim’ like a madman, relax the typing fingers and just enjoy the game until your box arrives. It won’t work until then. I’m still holding my thumbs up for this game anyway!

Update: I was able to /claim my items just fine after I input my retail key off the back of my manual, however I am reading that there is a problem with some folks not able to get all of their pre-order items when they ‘/claim’. Funcom is aware of the problem and working on a fix.

**UPDATE**
Just had a look over at my BestBuy order tracking page. As of 3:30PM EST on the 20th, my order has gone from “Pre-Order will be shipped on the 20th” to “Order being processed for shipping – will ship in 1 to 2 business days”. Bah. I’ll be level 40 before I get my XP ring or drinking cape.

This sucks, if I have to wait for my pre-order retail box to get here, I’ll end up getting my amazon bow after it’s already obsolete. I heard it was only good up until level 25?!

My order came in Friday, I entered the key and was able to claim all my items just fine. Worked like a charm.
