Want to be the ultimate twink tank? Our friends over at Twinkalicious are going to show you how! This build for a 49 Prot Warrior was submitted to us by the guild master of Twinkalicious, Kaberdog to help guide you to building the ultimate protection warrior. Watch with laughter as wave after wave of enemy combatants break upon your shield and fall at your feet. With this build and the recommended equipment, you’ll be able to take punishment like no other – absorbing the brunt of any attack and wade into battle like a true warrior, the way it should be. Let’s get started…
Head Slot: Avenguard Helm
Enchant: Lesser Arcanum of Tenacity (+125 Armor)
This helm, when combined with the Lesser Arcanum will provide you a great deal of protection with a grand total of 586 points toward your Armor Class and 25 points toward stamina to boost your health! This Helm is a quest reward item from the quest The God Hakkar which is part of a quest chain that begins in Feralas with the quest Screecher Spirits.
Neck Slot: Master Sergeant’s Insignia (Alliance) or Senior Sergeant’s Insignia (Horde)
This item will be pretty easy to acquire as it’s a PvP reward item you can get off of your faction’s quartermaster. For the alliance, see Master Sergeant Biggins in Stormwind City. For the Horde, look to Brave Stonehide in Orgrimmar.
Shoulder Slot: Wyrmslayer Spauldors
This is a pretty easy to acquire shoulder item, it’s Bind on Equip so you can just pickup one of these one the Auction House. According to WoWHead, the current average buyout price for this item is only 15 gold. This item will add another 403 armor to our build, bringing our current running total up to 989 AC. It also gives us a nice 12 point stamina bonus.
Back Slot: Sergeant’s Cape (Alliance) or Sergeant’s Cloak (Horde)
Enchant: Major Armor (+120 Armor)
Again, like our neck piece this is going to be an easy to acquire item. You’ll get them once again off of your faction’s quartermasters either in Stormwind City or Orgrimmar. These cape are so heavily desired for a protection warrior because of their superior AC. When combined with the Major Armor enchant, these cloaks will bump us up another 216 point in AC, bringing our running tally up to 1205. And once again we get the added bonus of stamina, this time with 14 additional points giving us generous helpings of health and armor.
Chest Slot: Hydralick Armor
Enchant: Exceptional Health (+150 Health)
A common piece seen on the Auction House, don’t expect to spend to much on this piece of equipment with the average sales price only coming in at 100 gold. This chest piece will give us a nice boost to our armor with 567 points, bringing us up to an AC of 1772. We also get another very generous boost of 20 to our stamina. I think I can hear the rogues starting to whimper…
Wrist Slot: Berserker Bracers
Enchant: Greater Stamina (+7 Stamina)
This is turning out to be a very inexpensive build thus far, with yet another PvP reward item making a showing in our gear list. In addition to more health via in the form of the 15 stamina we get when combined with our enchant of choice, we also boost our AC up another 262 points to 2034.
Hand Slot: Lofty Gauntlets of the Bear
Enchant: Rugged Armor Kit (+40 Armor)
These gloves should be easy to find at a fair price on the AH and are desirable because of their high AC rating, which will move us up another 357 AC points (when combined with the Rugged Armor enchant) to bring us up to a running total of 2296. The ‘of the Bear’ variant of these gloves will also give us between 11 to 12 stamina and strength as well – both good qualities for a prot warrior.
Leg Slot: Elemental Rockridge Leggings
Enchant: Lesser Arcanum of Tenacity (+125 Armor)
Our trusted friend Kaberdog is currently using a set very close to the Elemental leggings called Earthforge Leggings, but they fall short of being it’s equal in both AC rating and stat bonuses. In addition to being a slightly lesser item, they also require you to have skill in Armorsmithing. Also, we have taken the liberty of replacing the suggested Rugged Armor Kit for the enchant with our Lesser Arcanum, which will give us a superior armor boost of more than double the armor kit. All told, we’re looking at an additional 621 armor from this piece bringing us up to a total of 2917 AC and another healthy bump of 18 stamina. Alright, now I can hear audible sobs coming from those hunters over there.
Waist Slot: Highlander’s Plate Girdle (Alliance) or Defiler’s Plate Girdle (Horde)
Easy to acquire through battlegrounds, this piece will be a free boost to both your AC, giving us 313 more points as well as moving our stamina up another 8 points with some strength to sweeten the deal. Our total AC now will move up to 3230.
Foot Slot: Boots of Avoidance
Enchant: Rugged Armor Kit (+40 Armor)
These babies have protection warrior written all over them! When combined with our armor kit enchant, these clogs will move your AC up yet another 451 points! ”Ouch” says the Paladin! Our running total AC now stands at an impressive 3681 Armor Class which will make your warrior demand respect before we even get to some of our best defensive gear!
Ring Slot 1: Archaedic Stone of the Bear
This is the desired ring for this slot, but it’s not necessarily an easy one to get. This is because it is a bind on equip mob drop with a random enchant. If you get lucky enough, you can get this ring with the ‘of the Bear’ variant which will supply 8 to 9 more stamina for your build. The only other variant worth mentioning is the ‘of Regeneration’ which would give you +3 health every 5 seconds. This ring drops off of Archaedas in Uldaman, if you are unable to get a lucky drop that suits your needs, a suitable replacement for this would be the Aquamarine Signet of the Bear, which can just be purchased on the AH. If you are lucky enough to get the Archaedic Stone ring, you’ll be adding another 50 armor to our build, bringing it up to 3731 AC.
Ring Slot 2: Ring of Saviors
This is an easy to find epic ring on the AH. It’s nice for our build because it will provide an emergency 300 additional armor along with the full time benefit of 14 more stamina toward our health and a good dose of spirit to help our health regen. Going price on the market for this item is around 50 gold.
Trinket 1: Talisman of Arathor (Alliance) or the Defiler’s Talisman (Horde)
This is a very nice trinket to have that will take some big hits for you. It will often mean the difference between victory and defeat or at the very least it will buy you escape time to get clear of a bad situation and get your health back up. It’s going to be one you’ll use and use often with only a 3 minute cool down. You may want to setup a macro to quickly switch between this and your faction’s insignia. I would personally keep your faction’s insignia on as your primary trinket to help break fear and polymorph as you can’t switch to it once those are on you. Keep this one hot keyed however for when you need to mitigate some damage.
Trinket 2: Rune of Duty
This trinket won’t require nearly as much thought, it’s just going to give you a bonus to your stamina of 7 along with the increased speed at which you’ll regenerate health (+6 health per 5 seconds). If you managed to get the Archaedic Stone ring in the Regeneration variant, your overall health regeneration will now be boosted to +9 health per 5 seconds, not bad.
Main Hand Weapon: Viking Warhammer
Enchant: Crusader
A nice DPS mace that’ll add 11 stamina to your health pool. When you combined with the often proccing Crusader enchant this weapon is going to serve not only as a means of pummeling your enemy but also an important asset in keeping your own health pool full.
Shield Slot: Wall of the Dead
Enchant: Enchant Shield – Major Stamina
Whoa, now we’re talking. This is the only shield for a proc twink warrior in this bracket, period. This will also be your most expensive item with an average buyout price on the auction house of about 200 gold, but worth every coin! This shield will add 2226 to our armor pool, which if you followed this guide will now stand at a grand total of 5957! I think I just heard a druid faint. Anyway, we’re not finished – we’ll also be boosting our stamina up another 33 points which will add over 300 points to your health pool. But wait, that’s not all! If you act now you’ll also get a 3% chance to increase your armor by 150 when struck in combat.
And I’m spent…well designed build for taking a serious beating without having to look like you did. If you see Kaberdog in game, make sure to tell him thanks for providing us with this awesome twink build. Unless of course you are Horde, in that case….run!

Thanks for the comments Blackwings and good suggestions on the Arcanum of Tenacity, that was the first I had heard of it. Now with no-xp I was finally able to get the Helm of the Mountain in Mara, however, now I’m really wondering if Mugthol’s Helm might be a pretty good alternative (445 AC, +10 Str, +17 Sta, +17 Spirit), although the 238 AC diff with Mountain is substantial. Anyway, good to know there’s choice and Mugthol’s Helm is available in the AH.

Always a pleasure, thanks for sending us this great guide Kaber! I’m looking forward to more, and I know our readers are!
Alternative sets are never a bad thing, especially when you are running low on dinging your next level and ruining all your twink building efforts.

Another potential Helm pointed out on twinkinfo is Avengard Helm
Binds when picked up
HeadPlate
461 Armor
+10 Spirit
+5 Agility
+25 Stamina
Obviously the extra stamina is appealing to a Prot warrior and is available as a drop in the Temple of Atal’Hakkar and is part of the The God Hakkar quest chain (the good news is that with XP off you can actually complete this quest now!).

Updated! Thanks for the heads up, that’s a pretty substantial boost in HP, well worth a little sacrifice in armor class.
