After playing my twinks in World of Warcraft over the weekend and getting asked a horde of questions about where I got this gear or where I got that enchant I thought I’d come here and post up in detail what I’ve done to create each of my twinks and what I plan to do to finish my rogue and mage twinks as well.  Keep in mind, all mine are geared toward the 40-49 battleground bracket so if you are looking at creating yours in a lower or higher bracket this guide is useless to you, sorry.

class="spacer_" />

First we’ll start with my Feral Druid, Blackbovine.  Love that name don’t ya?  I know.  A lot of folks out there will argue that druids are healers, period.  A lot of folks are wrong.  Druids are an excellent choice for a twink because they are so multi-role talented.  With my feral druid I can heal myself and those around me effectively enough to keep us alive in a fight.  I have the stealth and high damage output of a rogue while in my cat form, enough damage to one shot most squishy cloth characters such as mages and warlocks.  And in my bear form, I’d challenge any warrior at 49, twink or not to match me for my armor.  In bear form I still put out a very respectable amount of damage and can take a beating like no other.  I’ve fought up to 3 opponents at a time in bear form and won if they were all melee classes, due to my huge damage mitigation and ability to heal in bear form.  And finally if things are going horribly wrong you can always switch to travel form for that quick getaway.

One last note about druids before we get into the details is they are excellent vs. mages for two reasons.  First, mages in PvP love to use frost nova to freeze their targets in place so they can damage from a distance safely.  Not against a druid, simply shape shift into another form and it breaks the frost nova and the druid is free to continue the attack.  Second, druids are all but impervious to another mage favorite spell, polymorph.  If a druid is in it’s natural form and is polymorphed, shape shifting into any form will break it.  Additionally, if you are already in one of your animal forms you are already immune to polymorph.  You would be surprised how many mages I was whaling away at in cat form while they were trying to cast polymorph on me.

Okay, down to it.  First what makes a good twink is the gear, so here is a list of the gear you’ll need and where you can get it, along with the enchants you’ll want to put on said gear:

Head:  Embrace of the Lycan

This beauty can be found in Zul’Farrak off of Chief Ukorz Sandscalp.  This piece, along with any other required from an instance will require you to enlist some high level help.  You will want to go get this piece at the lowest level that you are eligble to enter the instance.  If you wait until 49 you may find yourself accidentally dinging 50, which effectively makes you not a twink anymore and ruins your efforts, keep this in mind for this and all gear.  Also, this is a BOE item, your twink will have to loot it.

You’ll want to add a Lesser Arcane Amalgamation enchant to the Embrace of the Lycan, adding +8 agility for increased crit chance, armor, etc.  This enchant can be found on the auction house as an item.

Neck:  Woven Ivy Necklace

This item is a quest reward that you can obtain while leveling up your twink.  It’s a level 44 quest in the Hinterlands called Wanted: Vile Priestess Hexx and Her Minions.  No enchants for neck items sorry.

Shoulders:  Failed Flying Experiment

Another quest item, this time in Feralas.  It’s a level 40 escort quest called Rescue 00X-22/FE! Again, no enchant for shoulders.

Back:  Blackveil Cape (I was never able to get this for my druid)

This is a drop off of High Interrogator Gerstahn in Blackrock Depths.  You’ll definitely be needing high level help to get this.  Again, be cautious you don’t accidentally level yourself past 49 doing it, that’s why my druid probably won’t ever get this.  This is a BOE item, so make sure your druid does the looting.  You’ll want a +12 agility enchant on this one.

Chest:  Fungus Shroud Armor

This one I actually got just from running Maraudon off of Meshlok the Harvester before I decided to make my druid into a twink.  Just fate I guess.  You’ll want to add either +150 health or my personal favorite, +6 to all stats enchant to this one.

Wrist:  Forest Stalker’s Bracers

These are rewards for PVP.  So you can get these even after you hit 49 just by playing in the battlegrounds.  They are nice PVP rewards for the level being epic.  Either +24 attack power or +12 strength is the enchant you’ll want on these.  Both enchants have the same end result.

Gloves:  Jangdor’s Handcrafted Gloves

You may find a better pair of gloves, but these are pretty good for a feral druid.  They are a quest reward for a level 40 Feralas quest called The Mark of Quality.   Get the +15 strength enchant on these.

Belt:  Defiler’s Leather Girdle

Another PVP reward item that you can get once you hit 49 (or sooner if you’d like).  So no need to worry about experience on this one.  No enchant on belts, sorry.

Pants:  Basilisk Hide Pants

UPDATED LEGS – These are the legs I’m working on getting for my druid twink.  The great thing about these legs is that it has a big increase in agility over my previous pair – it also adds 8 more stamina I didn’t have before.  I’ll be adding Nethercobra Leg Armor to these for maximum damage increase.  The really great thing about these pants is that they are BOE, you’ll find them available on the AH.

Feet:  Defiler’s Lizardhide Boots

Yet another PVP reward making getting this one easy, since PVP is what you’ll be doing most with your twink.  You’ll want to get +12 agility enchant on these.

Ring One:  Masons Fraternity Ring

Reward from the Level 40 quest Divino-matic Rod in Tanaris.

Ring Two:  Archaedic Stone of the Tiger

This one is tricky because it has a random enchant.  Mine was of the tiger, which is perfect for a druid as it adds strength and agility.  Not to mention 50 armor to give you a nice bonus while in bear form.

Trinkets:

Rune of the Guard Captain

A quest reward for Job Opening: Guard Captain of Raventusk Village – a level 44 Hinterlands quest.  And the other trinket is up to you, but I’d go with your faction’s insignia trinket to break fear.

Weapon:  Warden Staff

This is one you’ll spend some money on – chances of getting it off of a world drop are remote, you’ll need to buy it when it comes up on the auction house.  It won’t be cheap but it is definitely worth the money.  This staff adds 260 armor and increases your defense rating, awesome for bear form.  Couple that with a +35 agility enchant and it’s a great weapon for any form.  It is tempting to get an enchant like mongoose or the like for a druids weapon, but it’s almost useless, don’t do it! Those enchants that are hit based will not work while you are in a shape shift form (Edit: Mongoose now works in Shapeshift Forms – still a toss up as many will stick with +35 agility enchant anyway), which is almost 100% of the time.  Get the +35 and you’ll be happy!  Alternatively, another good druid enchant is Savagery.  You’ll get double the attack power over the agility enchant, but you’ll lose some armor and more importantly some crit chance.

As far as the actual leveling goes for your twink, just grind up until you hit level 40.  Once you are level 40 consider yourself in item gathering mode.  Try to get as many of these items from instances especially early on in your 40′s.  Keep in mind many of these items may not drop the first time you run the instance, so you will have to do each several times.  The quest items should be gained as soon as the quest is available for the same reasons – don’t over level.

If you are getting dangerously close to dinging 50 – stop.  If you just need some items from instances, it is possible to group with a high level friend and let him clear the instance up until the boss before you enter.  Then you just need to be close enough when he kills the boss so you aren’t getting to much xp.  Do this as often as you can even early on to give you as many tries as possible to get that rare drop!
Good luck!

you could replace shoulders, gloves, weapon, legs, cape, and rings, for much better pieces.

Noted Locus – This was actually my first twink, I’m revisiting him to do some upgrades to the gear. I’ve already found a better pair of pants (you may want to look at them as well).

I’m currently searching for better shoulders, gloves, cape and rings. However I won’t be leveling to get them so if I can get them without gaining much XP I’ll go with them. Otherwise I’ll go with the best AH pair I can find.

Oh, and on the weapon – I also have Blanchard’s Stout with Savagery enchant on it. I may switch to the +35 agility enchant.

blanchards stout with 35 agi or 70 AP is way better then that staff and why the green shoulds, get the shoulds from mara and even the boots from the croc in mara are a better choice for feral twink, i could go on, but not everything here is the best, i know cuz i have a 49 feral twink myself

I use blanchard’s stout while in cat form, the staff is a better choice in bear form because of the extra armor multiplier you get from the staff. Makes you very tough to take down.

btw since 3.0.2 chance on hit procs can now go off even wen shapeshifted so Mongoose enchant can also be used as well as some weapons that have some proc.

They are better suited as flag runner’s after the 29 bracket. They don’t get travel form until level 30.

That said, they can still be good dps wise at lower brackets and are as good as any at running flags. You’ll still have sprint in cat form and if you use talent points, you can slightly increase your cat form running speed. Bear form isn’t as good at this level either though as it is in the 49 bracket, where you’ll have dire bear form with increased armor.

Great Guide, just wanted to add some things i thought too be more useful. Firstly, get the Glyph of Survival Instincts, its a heal of 45% of your hp. Second, Helm of Fire is way better then Embrace of the Lycan since it gives agility. When youre a feral druid, wich in pvp means youre a cat form druid you want to stack up Agility. Since it gives ap, dodge rating, armor and ofcourse crit rating. Which means YOU OWN. ( Get Strangth if you want only ap. ) Another thing that should be considered, 1str = 2.13ap, while 1agi = 1.13 ap, and 1 ap = 1.13ap ( Dont ask me why)

Hmmm…I may have to grab that Helm to give it a shot, definitely worth seeing how it will work out. Embrace of the Lycan is def better for pure AP, which is what I had in mind when I did the build, with EoL you get a total of 49 AP when you consider the 8 strength and 32 additional attack power as a bonus on the helm. With the HoF you only get 23-24 AP. So it’s a base damage trade off for more dodge, crit chance and AC.

I do like the suggestion though and I may do a agility intensive build to see if it works out better. That glyph is awesome by the way!
