WoW Twink Guide: 39 Affliction Warlock

I was initially trying to design a 49 bracket Warlock when I realized a lot of the twink gear I was grabbing could also be used in the 39 bracket, so I re-wrote the guide for the lower bracket. Why? Because twinking is all about getting the absolute using the most powerful gear you can at a lower level. Why make a powerful 49 twink when you can make a God-like 39? Roughly the same power as the 49 with a few less abilities but going up against much easier opponents. Not to mention, less leveling and stress and a great bracket to play in.

First let me set up for you the requirements for a good Warlock twink. There are only two things we want to worry about here; lots and lots of health and even more bonus spell damage! Intellect will come in this setup here and there for sure – you’re a caster you’ll need mana – but it will be an afterthought to the former two.

Head: [item]10504en[/item] of Shadow Wrath

Enchant: +100 health

This is a player made item (engineer) and has a random enchant. Obviously, you’re going to want the of Shadow Wrath version (+34 or +36 bonus to Shadow damage). Even if you buy this on the AH, you’re going to need to level engineering to 245 to use it – well worth the trouble.

Neck: [item]4743en[/item]

Enchant: N/A

This is a quest reward off of the Summoning the Princess quest chain. You’re going to need help to finish this chain and it’s a little lengthy, it starts in the Arathi Highlands and ends in the Badlands. If you don’t want to run the chain for the item or can’t because you’re to close to leveling you can always sacrifice the bonus spell damage and go with the PVP neck from your battleground vendor for added stamina instead.

Shoulders: [item]14243en[/item] of Shadow Wrath

Enchant: N/A

Find this baby off the AH – look for the +20 Shadow Spell damage variant as this is a random enchant item. You will also see a +19 Shadow Spell damage version, which is okay if you can’t find that extra damage variation of the shoulders.

Back: [Battle Healer's Cloak] (Updated by Xsifilad)

Enchant: +20 Spell Penetration

There are easy to find BOE items you can get to fill this slot on the AH if you want the easy way out, some with more bonus Shadow Damage (slightly) than this item – but none that also add intellect. This is a boss drop off of Lady Falther’ess in Razorfen Downs.

Chest: [Elemental Raiment] (Updated by Xsifilad)

Enchant: +6 All Stats (Updated by Xsifilad)

This is a BOE Chest piece – Look for it on the Auction House!

Wrist: [item]14260en[/item] of Shadow Wrath

Enchant: +12 Stamina or +15 Spell Damage

An item that should be easily found on the AH for a price. Look for the +14 Shadow Damage version. You can double that with the +15 spell damage enchant or if you are looking for a little more survivability you can go with the additional 12 stamina enchant – up to you.

Hands: [item]10003en[/item]

Enchant: +20 Spell Damage

This build is just chock full of AH available items, which makes it easy to make – if you have the coin to do it. These will add a huge bonus to your damage output when combined with the plus damage enchant.

Waist: [item]20166en[/item]

Enchant: N/A

Easy – PVP reward item and no enchants, this is a freebie.

Leggings: [item]2277en[/item]

Enchant: [Runic Spellthread] (Updated by Xsifilad)

These pants when combined with the Runic Spellthread will give you a whopping 20 stamina and 35 bonus spell power! Don’t waste your money on the Nethercleft Leg Armor for the enchant. It’s 40 stamina is nice to keep you alive, but you can only stay alive so long if you aren’t putting out some damage. You only need to survive long enough for the enemy to die.

Boots: [item]20161en[/item]

Enchant: +12 Stamina

The PVP boots are a freebie so take advantage. They are also the best boots you can get with added boost to speed (critical for PVP). The plus to stamina enchant will cost you a little coin so this slot isn’t completely free.

Rings: [item]1980en[/item] x 2

The Underwold band is definitely the best ring for you in this bracket. It’s available on the AH and you are going to want to double up and grab two of these. It’s an epic item but it’s not unique, so you can have more than one equipped.

Trinkets: PVP Trinket and [item]19024en[/item]

The PVP trinket is essential to keep you out of fear and polymorph effects and the Arena Grand Master, though hard to get, will save your life many times over.

Weapon: [item]873en[/item]
Optional: [Windweaver Staff] (Updated by Xsifilad)

Enchant: Soulfrost (+54 Shadow Damage)

Expect to pay a lot for both this item off the AH and possibly even more for the enchantment. These two combined can run you up to 1,000+ gold but worth every copper piece.

Wand: [item]5215en[/item] of Shadow Wrath

Enchant: N/A

Lastly the wand, this I had a hard time deciding on and eventually went with the above for the +7 Shadow Damage. If you are in need of additional mana, you could go with [item]13064en[/item].

UPDATE by Xsifilad

Major Glyphs:
(Option 1): [Glyph of Syphon Life] and [Glyph of Fear]
(Option 2): [Glyph of Corruption] and [Glyph of Curse of Agony]
* Note: Glyph of Corruption works in conjunction with nightfall

Ok the intelect is ALMOST totaly usless stat for a warlock.

Excellent question CJ, Soulfrost does require the enchanter to be level 60 or higher. So you’ll need to have a high level enchanter enchant the weapon for you. It only requires the weapon level to be 35 or higher however, which means it can be put on the Staff of Jordan.

everything looks good but replace your back armor with the [Battle Healer's Cloak] from wsg and another good trinket if your engineering is [Gnomish Death Ray] that shit owns

A substitute that works instead of [Staff of Jordan] would be [Hypnotic Blade](+8 int, +3 spirit, +9 spell power) from SM:Lib and [Mordresh's Lifeless Skull](+5 stam, +13 spellpower) from RFD. So in total, +5 stamina, +8 intellect, and +22 spell power, which is nice imo, considering you don’t have to fork over the huge amount of gold for the Staff of Jordan. Though you can’t put the spell power enchant on it, you can put a lower leveled one on it. So this substitute is good if you’re strapped on cash. ;) Hope i helped a tad.

Windweaver staff cannot be enchanted with Soulfrost, I know i was suprised too!Btw anyone got any other ideas for a staff if I dont got enough for Staff of Jordan, Is the wsg Staff alright?

That’s odd, it should be enchantable with Soulfrost. It’s a two-handed, level 37 item staff. Soulfrost requires a two-handed level 35 weapon. Hrmm…very odd indeed, can anyone confirm this isn’t a mistake?

The WSG staff isn’t a bad replacement until you can get a better staff. It has a good amount of stamina on it.

yeh, someone tried to explain, they said that the Item lvl only works with quest rewards without a equipt level, but i got soulfrost on a vellum now and i cant put it on so idk. so ill prob use wsg staff, and how do you get the 100 hp to head never found out how to get that one

Talk to Mathredis Firestar at the Flame Crest in Burning Steppes. Bring him 30 Gold, 1 Black Diamond, 4 Night Dragon’s Breath, 1 Lung Juice Cocktail and the Libram of Constitution itself to recieve the Lesser Arcanum of Constitution.

1) Black diamond is easily acquire from AH
2) 4 Night Dragon’s Breath – BoP item from a repeatable quest at Felwood(not really a quest reward, but you gotta complete the quests to get the thing to clense the plant so that u can herb it)
Quest guide here http://thottbot.com/?ccb=1&v=685991

3) 1 Lung Juice Cocktail – BoP item from a repeatable quest at Blasted Lands
Quest guide here http://thottbot.com/i8411

Just mail your head slot item (only works if not already bound to your twink) to your main and have him enchant it with the Lesser Arcanum of Constitution, then mail it back to your twink to equip.

Just a few thoughts from my end.

Firstly, as far as trinkets go, I use 2 [Eye of the beast]. 28 x 2 additional spell power (Edit: Critical Strike Chance) is WAY better than anything else you can put in the trinket slots.

For shoulders, the best in slot for a 39 twink atm is the BOA shoulders (badge or WG) with the 30stam/10res pvp armor patch put on. Its bugged where you can put that patch on boa shoulders and put them on your twink.

A good weapon/offhand combo if you dont want to blow 500g on a staff of jordan is a green dagger ([Sacrifical Kris of Shadow Wrath], 11 shadow damage) with soulfrost and offhand an [Umbral Crystal]. Its basically just 5 stam short of a staff of jordan with the same spell dmg. Think I got my umbral crystal in RFD.

As far as boots go, if you get lucky and see a pair of 20shadow damage green boe boots pop up, grab those and put the stam/run encahnt on them. Easily best in slot.

The 2 glpys i run with are glyph of siphon life (essential when taking down 4+ alliance at the same time) and the one that has a chance to proc shadowbolt. Honestly instant shadow bolts are the only way youre going to take out a good twink shaman/pally healer. Instant shadowbolts are basically an Iwin button.

For what its worth, when deciding on gear, always go with more spell damage. Stam and int are nice, but what you are is a cannon. Tossing out 3 dots then draining their life will serve you better than trying to tank them, and you can always life tap for more mana and siphon/drain life for more health. Spell damage >>>> everything.

And trust me on this, I almost always get over 30-40+ kills in a bg, while dying less than 10 times.

Doesn’t Soulfrost require a 2h weapon?

DotDotGoose
March 9th, 2009 at 2:12 am

It may have used to require a 2H weapon, but after looking around it appears it doesn’t anymore.

Blackwings
March 9th, 2009 at 8:42 am

Nah, soulfrost didnt ever require 2h, chanted my dagger back in tbc

Here’s my twink lock

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Emerald+Dream&n=Sneeze

The only two upgrades for her are a pair of green boots of shadow wrath with boar speed (20 spell, 9 stam, faster run) and another stone of jordan. Not huge upgrade, just something I never got around to.

Also considering dropping a point out of fel concnetration so i can get 3/3 hit. I seem to miss a lot.

And im not sure how my first post got edited, but my trinkets add 28 spell power, not crit, as you can tell by my armory.

here is a link to my twink lock, havent put alot of gold into her but she seems to do pretty well in BG http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Dark+Iron&n=Mydemona Think I’m going to change her shoulders to Shadoweave Shoulder though and add the +29 Healing power enchant to her dagger and shee how that works out
