WoW Twink Guide: 19 Marksman Hunter

The level 19 Marksmanship Hunter twink setup is arguably the most deadly twink setup of any class in any bracket.  This setup will allow you to rule the 10-19 bracket in dominating fashion - including the ever popular rogue in this bracket.

Hunters in this bracket easily do the best DPS when at range and even in melee they out damage just about every class but the rogue.  The hunter at this level can control the field pretty well on his own with his arsenal of slows and stuns to deal out the damage before anyone gets close.  If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive twink experience that’s a lot of fun to play - this is it.

The gear:

Head Slot:  [Lucky Fishing Hat]

This is probably going to be the hardest item for you to get.  You’ll need to compete in the lucky fishing tournament in STV to try to win this prize.  Enchant this item with either the +100 health (my personal favorite for the head slot) or a +8 agility libram.  Both should be readily available on the auction house.

Neck:  [Sentinel's Medallion] or [Scout's Medallion] depending on your faction.

This is a PVP reward item for being honored in WSG.  Easy to get through just playing battlegrounds, it’s free and no enchants to worry about.

Shoulders:  [Talbar Mantle]

This is a perfect hunter piece, it will add a nice bonus to your mana and health pools.  Both being critical for a good hunter twink.  Another great item that is virtually free.  You won’t be shelling out any gold for the item or for enchants.  You will need to run the In Nightmares quest chain in the Barrens though.

Back:  [Sentry Cloak]

This is a BOE item, so you may have to shell out some gold on the AH to get this bad boy.  However, if you want to try to find it on your own - try killing Qiraji Officer Zod while you are out in the Barrens.  He is one of the bosses that drops this item.  Don’t forget this is an enchanteable item slot, so drop a +3 agility enchant on your cloak before heading into the bg’s.

Chest:  [Blackened Defias Armor]

Okay I lied, this is probably going to be the most difficult item for you to get.  Because you are going to need help getting it.  This is a drop off of the last boss in deadmines.  It’s also a BOP item, so you’ve got to be the one to loot it!  If you do manage to get it, I recommend a +4 stats enchant.  Hell I recommend that enchant on whatever chest you end up with.  If you are an alliance twink, you could go after the [Tunic of Westfall] instead from the Westfall quest chain The Defias Brotherhood.  Horde get the shaft on this one.

Wrist:  [Forest Leather Bracers]

Another easy to get PVP reward for just doing what twinks do best.  Battlegrounds.  Got to love it when the strong get stronger, eh?  This is a good place to stack on some health - go with a +9 stamina enchant here to give you some survivability.

Hands:  [Scouting Gloves] of the Monkey

Look for this item on the AH but don’t just swoop up and buy the first one you see.  Take a close look at the stats - they will vary.  Buy the 4/4 version of these gloves.  Let’s add up some dodge and especially some critical hit chance by adding the +15 agility enchant.

Waist:  [Deviate Scale Belt]

I told you this build wasn’t going to be expensive.  Another PVP reward item that comes free.  And no charge for the enchant on this, no really - it’s on me!  Just go to your nearest enchanter and tell ‘em Blackwings sent ya!  On second thought don’t.  They may start thinking I’m some kind of idiot for thinking there is an enchant for your belt.

Legs:  [Scouting Trousers] of the Monkey

Get the +5 agility/+5 stamina version if you go with the trousers of the monkey.  Alternatively, you can go with the trousers of agility and get +8 to agility.  The real bread and butter on these babies is your enchant.  Get the [Nethercleft Leg Armor] enchant from the AH and have a high level player put the enchant on the pants for you before you equip them to give you a massive boost of 40 to your stamina and 12 to your agility.

Feet:  [Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots]

Another STV fishing reward item for the quest Rare Fish - Brownell’s Blue Striped Racer.  This is a great pair of boots not only because it adds 12 to stamina but it’s also a level 35+ item, so it qualifies for the Cat’s Swiftness (+6 agility and minor speed increase) or Boar’s Speed (+9 stamina and minor speed increase).  If you go with a standard goto like [Feet of the Lynx] you’ll just be adding a regular minor speed increase enchant - critical to have that speed for hunters.

Ring One:  [Seal of Sylvanas] or [Seal of Wrynn]

Both of these are available from a quest line in one of the capital cities for your particular faction.  Undercity for the horde and Westfall for the alliance.

Ring Two:  Protector’s Band or Legionnaire’s Band

These are easy to acquire PVP reward rings depending on your faction.  I recommend these to keep down the cost of building this twink.  Mainly so I can claim it’s an inexpensive build, but these are also some of the best rings you can get.  So it’s not like I’m lying to ya!

Trinket One:  PVP Trinket (Insignia of the Horde/Alliance)

Self explanatory - a must have for PVP

Trinket Two:  [Arena Grand Master]

This is great for saving your hide.  The damage mitigation can effectively double your health in a tight spot.

Main Hand Weapon:  [Battle Slayer] of Agility

Good damage for when you need it.  Most of your melee attacks are going to be single wing clips while you try to escape back to distance anyway, so a slower more damage per swing weapon is preferred.  Add to this a +25 agility enchant.

Ranged Weapon:  [Venomstrike]

A nice proc effect, good damage and nice attack speed.  You’re going to love that bow.  Don’t forget to add a +7 damage scope to it to max out your DPS!

For your talents, it’s pretty easy.  Go with a 5/5 build all in Marksmanship.  5 in improved concussive shot and 5 in lethal shot to give you an additional 5% critical strike chance and a nice stun that will proc often.

I’d love to do this with the free time I have in the next couple weeks. What server do you play on/ race?

You can email me if you don’t want to say on here.

Weapon choice you made is pure logical, dats a good way of thinking.

But the weapon you should go with is the staff lvl 19 can be bought on AH 10 intellect and 6 stamina and it has a slow attack speed just like the Axe you have chosen.

Snap a 25 agility on that one no questions there!

note that patch 2.3 and 2.4+ changes items and many hunters had to regear.

Errors or missing info:

1. level enginnering for bombs and such. Use engineering goggles until you get the fishing hat. your first hat should have +100hp on it, and additional ones can get +8agi or even +10 haste rating for those total pwnage games.

2. In nightmares quest chain needs a full WC clear.

3. Qiraji Officer Zod is no longer in the game on any server - he was there only until the opening of the AQ gates. The last server to open the gates of AQ was about 2 years ago. Sentry cloak is now just a world BOE drop - find it on the ah.

4. 100HP chest > +4stats. Survivability > than the small +agi gain. Note that some hunters have 2, one with 100hp and one with +4, they use the +4 for those times when your team is simply owning and you want to put on the extra hurt.

5. forest leather bracer is not a pvp award - it is a BOE green world drop. Find it on the ah.

6. deviate scale belt is not a pvp award - it is crafted by leatherworker. However most hunters now go for girdle of the blindwather (sfk drop) for the extra mana. Horde can get the screecher belt (stonetalon quest)

7. Get footpads of the fang over feet of the lynx for the stam until you get the fishing boots.

8. twisted chanters staff (find it on the ah unless you want to run BFD forever on your main) is the wep of choice for the stam and mana. +25agi enchant of course.

9. Some have a extra set of the 4/4 monkey gloves and put the +haste enchant on it when going against casters.

10. Horde can get farstrider longbow - great for going against casters. put a +3 scope on it. But main wep is venomstrike (WC). Bow of plunder (horde only) is no longer the bow of choice.

11. horde can get the tranquillien cloak - nice stam set.

12. many get an extra cloak and put +10 shadow resist on it - helpful if you are running into warlocks/priests. shadow protection pots for those cases also helps alot.

serpent shoulders should be in your bags for times when you want the extra dps, otherwise use talbar mantal.

High dps set will use glowing lizardscale cloak, but sentry cloak is generally more useful due to stam.

for those times when you see that you are going up against other twinks consider having eagle 3/3 bracers and eagle 4/4 gloves in your bags for the extra mana.

alliance can get quiver of the nightwatch - better than L15 one from vendor.

And if you have gold to burn - naxx shoulder enchants on a BOE white leather shoulders.
