I know this isn’ t the first time some one has brought this up, but can too much games bring down the quality of games being made? My opinion yes and no, it’s really a two way street. You could go buy that new EGM, and it has your favorite game on the front cover. So you go under This Months Reviews and they only give your favorite game of all time a 7/10 ! So who is right? You the Consumer? Or the Magazine?
In reality your both right becasue everyone like’s some type of game that someone else dosen’t like at all. But that dosent mean that the game companies can start cranking out game in 6 months just because the games title has killer what ever in the title. So to get to the point as most of you know I am in game development and design ( student), and my final answer is there has to be crappy games to make the good one’s look even better. Or game developers just need to start really caring about their product.
Sincerely,
James

As we (this generation) and even the previous generation of gamers watch the industry explode with success in sales, there comes two things to question: 1) How will this change the industry as we know it? 2) What will remain the same?
As for me, I have watched many other things grow from underground and up into the mainstream/limelight and the amount of bad change is sickening and shameful. Money changes everything and everyone in the entertainment business for the worse [except the artists who stay true to their form]…
I guess that’s what tells whether or not it gets better or worse — whom ever in control that adjusts to the boom of success by maintaining quality rather than quantity. If the ones in control are about the money or are true to their artistic passion to produce really good video gamez, you can bet the quality part! The rest, well you know…. o_0

As the game industry expands I think there is going to definately be an increase in games produced because there will be more people to buy them. I think as a gamer of almost 20 years now that the increase in total games has also meant an increase in good/great/AAA games. For me its at a point that there are too many games coming out that I want to play, but don’t have the time.
Right now I’m going back and playing Diablo II. The Diablo III announcement got me back interested. Other than that I haven’t bought a new game since April of this year. From January to April, I purchased at least one game a month probably closer to averaging two per month, and then I’ve gone almost 5 months without buying a game. That’s partially due to the mid year lack of game releases. I have several games that I want to play that are coming out this fall/winter, but I am only planning on purchasing 3: Resistance 2, Fable 2, and Gears of war 2.
With the big budget that goes into alot of games and many people lacking time to play these games, it may dramatically decrease the number of AAA games that are released. I think what the game industry needs to do is have a couple summer blockbusters like the movie industry. If they spread out some of the big games more people would have time to play them and therefore more people should buy them.
