Delta Force: Angel Falls

delta-force-angel-falls.pngI’ve always had a love for Novalogic’s First Person Shooter titles with the lone exception of Delta Force Xtreme.  This title looks to be along the lines of being similar to Joint Operations in scope, where Nova first introduced very large amounts of combatants into a single server with land, sea and air vehicles along with the bread and butter foot soldier combat style us DF fans grew up with.

Just today, I noticed Novalogic finaly released some details of the upcoming title.  At first glance just from their description, it sounds a lot like Joint Operations.  Angel Falls will have the ability to have large scale combat on a single server – Nova is claiming up to 200 players at the same time.  That’s probably within the realm of reason considering JO had the ability for up to 150 players.  Angel Falls, like JO will also feature land, sea and air vehicles for players to use in combat.

If the vehicles behave in the same way as those in JO, don’t expect these to act like they do in such games as the Battlefield series.  Nova’s vehicles are much more basic to operate and can usually be accomplished with just a few keys on the keyboard.  Not to say that Nova hasn’t brought more of a simulator feel to their vehicles in this new version but I’m willing to bet that the helo’s will be just as basic as they were in JO.  That’s not to say they aren’t handy and very effective, just not as much talent is required to do basic manuevers.

Here’s some of the info from Nova on Angel Falls – currently due out in Mid-2009:

Description

In the near future, set in the north-west region of Central America and spanning both Colombia and Venezuela, “Delta Force: Angel Falls” presents the rural, sparsely populated areas of this exotic locale.  The South American environment provides a premise which is naturally beautiful and full of new millennium conflicts.

Marginal governments, involved in local expansionism, continually scuffle with one another and with major global powers. Complicating matters, drug cartels have evolved beyond money to political forces rivaling established governments. Influenced by current events, the game is both topical and novel.

The sometimes local philosophy of “your enemy is my friend and your friend is my enemy” gives rise to a multitude of ever-changing alliances and conflicts which drive the game’s rapid action. The culmination of the conflict takes place in the Angel Falls area of Venezuela providing both a spectacular setting and a surprise ending.

The game is not yet released. Tentative release date looks like July 2009 from what I’ve read – but I wouldn’t hold my breath. It hasn’t entered open beta yet, my squad is potentially on the line to go into beta when it’s ready but even that’s not definite.
