Overall I’d have to say that the Nintendo Wii has been a very good buy for my family. We’ve been having a hell of a time beating the crap out of eachother late at night in the Wii Sports Boxing game that comes with the console. My wife almost always wins – she’s just a better boxxer than me. But I’ll eventually get her into duel mode in The Force Unleashed, then we’ll see what’s up. No more sleepless nights taking care of our newborn because I lost a bad bet on another boxing match – nope, she’ll be eating some lightsaber. Anyway…on to my complaints.
Multiplayer
The Wii so far seems to be limited on multiplayer games. Granted we haven’t bought very many games yet but of all the games we’ve bought, The Force Unleashed is the only one that has any kind of multiplayer component to it at all. We get the Sims 2: Pet edition – granted I didn’t expect much multiplayer in that, but also we picked up a copy of Need for Speed to get down and dirty with some racing action but ended up trying to beat eachother in lap times because we couldn’t race together. That one surprised me. So far, the only true multiplayer games are the sports games that came with the console – if anyone knows any others out there that are worth buying please let me know – not happy with the current selection. We bought the console to play together, not watch eachother play.
Wii won’t turn on
This is an odd problem for sure. I left the Wii powered on overnight in standby mode – we had a storm overnight and the next morning the thing wouldn’t work. There was no power outtages that I’m aware of and no lightning but the thing just would not turn on. Everything was hooked up fine and I was almost to the point of calling tech support to figure it out when I just got frustrated and unhooked the whole thing. A few hours later I hooked it back up and lo’ and behold – it worked fine.
Apparently something needs to be reset in the thing if there is any kind of power problem – but there is no breaker button or reset switch or anything for the power. You just have to unplug it for a few hours and let it work itself out. I’m sure Nintendo could do something about this – I browsed around the internet afterward and found quite a few people with the same problem. Some say it’s from outtages, others from overheating. Bottom line is no one has a clue – just that it works again after completely unplugging everything (unplug the transformer from the wall too – just incase). While you are waiting, it’s best not to take out any frustrations on the console, last I checked setting it on fire did not repair the problem. Just an fyi.

Mario Cart should be a good family multiplayer game. I personally haven’t played it. Also Rampage: Tools of destruction is multiplayer co-op, I’m not sure if there is a versus mode.
Personally I’ve never been able to really get into the wii. I bought one launch day and I bet I have 40 hours total play time in the almost 2 years I’ve had it. I’m just not finding it as entertaining as my PS3 and 360.

I hope that isn’t you’re Wii in the picture, looks pretty wrecked.
I also enjoy Mario Kart on multiplayer, top game.

I’ve played Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
It is an awesome multiplayer. Mind you i was pretty drunk at the time. But it really has great gameplay and a vast range of nintendo characters and backdrops.
Great buy.

Hopefully the multiplayer will be better soon if they bring out that voice chat mic and headphones (like on the XBox 360).
That’s the only thing I don’t really like about the internet gameplay, the lack of communication.
