My Wii in HD

I finally did it, I broke down and bought my first console since the Atari 64!  My wife and I were looking for something fun we could both do together at home and since there are no MMORPG’s we can both agree upon right now we started looking at consoles.

I know the Wii has been out for awhile and didn’t hold the graphics appeal of some newer systems like the PS3, but the difference in playstyles was enough for us to decide to go that route.  We ordered up the Wii from my buddies over at Tigerdirect, thank God they had it!  Every retail store in America seems to be sold out of these little beauties – I didn’t understand why until I actually got one.  I was thinking, “Why on Earth are PS3’s and X-Box’s all over the store shelves but everyone is sold out of the older Wii?”

My questions were answered when I finally got it.  Wow is this thing fun to play!  The bundle I bought really didn’t put me in any good graces with my wife, instead of an exercise mat or some girly games it came with Madden 09 and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.  I played SW:TFU on the PS3 at my brother’s house a few days earlier and loved it but now I can’t imagine not playing it on the Wii.  Sure the graphics engine isn’t as good, but the gameplay it just so much more intense.  I was looking for the attack button that I got used to on the Playstation version to swing my saber.  I kept pushing this button and that button and the saber seemed to swing randomly on different buttons – until my dumbass figured out that it was swinging as I swung around the Wii remote!  How cool is that?!

You can control the direction of the swing left or right, uppercut or stab simply by where you swing your remote.  The force powers are controlled by the nunchuck controller but even those require you to get into it with motion – if you want to force throw someone just pick them up with a grip and shove the remote forward and a’flying they will go.

Of course, I didn’t get much past killing the first jedi before I was told we needed to do Wii bowling instead of Star Wars.  I’m aching to get back in and see what this thing can really do!  My one complaint though is the I was able to connect my Wii up to my in-house WiFi network and get internet access and Wii updates, but I wasn’t able to browse the internet.  Apparently, you have to purchase Wii points to use to buy the Wii channel ‘Internet’ to be able to browse.  What’s up with that?  Why isn’t the internet browser free like every other Wii channel?!

It’s the browser you have to pay for. About six months after the wii came out they had the opera browser free to download and after a certain amount of time you had to pay for it. Frow what I’ve done on the internet on the Wii, I don’t know how much you are actually missing out on.

Ya, I’m not about to go pay to browse the web on the Wii when I have a nice widescreen monitor on my PC only a few feet away. Just thought it would be cool.
