Console Sales News

On the heels of a fairly drastic, approximately 30% price drop in Japan on September 11, the Xbox 360 has out-sold every home console on the market for the week ending September 13.  Yes, even the unbeatable Nintendo Wii. On the surface this seems like a bit of surprise; in fact it is a huge surprise.  The 360 has sold well shy of a million units since it launch in Japan.  This, while the Wii has sold nearly 7 million units in its shorter life span.  Now, I am not proclaiming a dramatic comeback by any means, but it is a bit of an encouragement for a system that seemed all but dead in the land of the rising sun.

The 360 sold 30,783 units in the latest period in Japan.  This is a whopping increase of over 3,000% from the previous week.  We have been lucky enough to have the price re-dropped here in the states as well.  This should continue to bring up sales which saw an increase of 46%.  A modest increase compared to the Japanese increase but still one that put it back ahead of the PS3 in sales for the period ending September 6.  While the figures are not out yet for American sales in the week ending 9/13, expect the trend to continue, especially with juggernauts like Fable 2 and Fallout 3 coming next month.

All other systems remain relatively steady in all markets.  Check back for updated American sales info.
